Today is a happy-sad sort of day for me. It is happy because today is Steve's and My 12th wedding anniversary, but sad because 5 years ago, my dad died. I never know where I should be or how I should feel on this day every year. Part of me just wants to celebrate with my husband, but the other part of me wants to be with my mom and feel a bit sad about my dad. Today was fun because I got to do both! This morning, my mom and I walked a 5k for the Clara Jean foundation. Clara Jean Laible was a lady in my ward at church who died of breast cancer and her family has set up a foundation in her honor. I have always wanted to do a breast cancer walk because it is a cause that is close to my heart because my Grammie had breast cancer. The Race for the Cure is always on a Sunday around here, so I have never been able to walk. Mom and I had fun! We got t shirts and fun freebies from different vendors, and got to walk around farmer's market and enjoy some cold lemonade afterward. In the evening, Steve and I went to dinner and to see the movie "Star Trek." We left the kids with a babysitter for the first time (we have always had family watch them before), and they had so much fun! In the end, it was a good day. I got to do something fun with my mom and talk about my dad, plus he would have LOVED the movie. I remember watching Star Trek with him all the time when I was little.
I took this picture on our walk. There is artwork along the way honoring WWII veterans, and my mom and I liked this quote.
